NPA Fuel Price Update: What Ghanaian Drivers Should Know

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana regularly reviews fuel price floors to reflect movements in international crude oil prices and the exchange rate of the cedi. Here is a summary of the most recent updates and what they mean for you.

Latest Price Floors (August 2026 Window)

For the pricing window covering early August 2026, the NPA set the following minimum ex-pump price floors for petroleum products:

  • Petrol (PMS): GH₵14.53 per litre
  • Diesel (AGO): GH₵14.97 per litre
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): GH₵11.06 per kilogramme
  • Marine Gas Oil (MGO Local): GH₵16.08 per litre
  • Kerosene: GH₵14.46 per litre

Relief on Diesel

To help cushion consumers against rising transport costs, the government directed a temporary reduction of GH₵2.00 per litre in the regulatory margin on diesel — bringing the diesel floor down from around GH₵16.97 to GH₵14.97 per litre for the window. This intervention is aimed at moderating the pass-through effect of fuel prices on the wider cost of living.

Why Prices Vary Between Stations

It is important to understand that the NPA figures are price floors — the minimum thresholds that Oil Marketing Companies must observe. They do not include premiums charged by international traders, distribution margins, or individual dealer margins. As a result, actual pump prices differ slightly from one station to another.

The Essence Energy Commitment

At Essence Energy, we are committed to fair, transparent pricing and reliable supply across all our stations. Our current pump prices are displayed on the live price ticker at the top of this website and at each station forecourt. We continue to monitor NPA announcements closely so our customers always get quality fuel at competitive rates.

Note: Fuel prices are reviewed by the NPA on a bi-monthly basis and may change in subsequent windows. The figures above reflect the August 2026 pricing window.
